How to Play Oklahoma Gin

Oklahoma Gin is a sort of Gin Rummy and it is a card game which is based on players’ skills. Two, three or four people may play oklahoma gin. You need one standard pack of 52 cards in order to play oklahoma gin. If there are two players then each player is dealt 10 cards. If there are three or four players then each of them is dealt 7 cards.

The main aim in Oklahoma Gin is to get rid of all the cards in your hand as quick as possible. The winner is the player who the first was found without cards. You should meld the cards into sets and runs and lay them down. Under a notion “set” we understand 3-4 cards of the same value. A notion “run” is quite the reverse 3 or more consecutive cards of the same suit.

The players should start a turn by drawing a card from the stock or from the discard piles with following adding it to their hand. To finish their turn, players should discard one card from their hand on the discard pile.

We are going to present you three variants how to win a round of Oklahoma Gin:

•       Gin is the variant when gamblers meld all the cards in their hand by laying them down on the table immediately and discarding their last card - while having no deadwood left.

After players Gin, their adversaries may lay their melds down on the table, to abate their deadwood count and consequentlydiminish their amount of penalty points.

•       Knock is the variant when gamblers meld all the cards in their hand and their deadwood count is identical to the opening card’s face value or lower.

After players Knock, their defeated adversaries may lay their melds down on the table, and affix matching cards to the Knocker’s original melds only. So, the Knock move gives the defeated players a chance to diminish their amount of penalty points far more than Gin.

•       Undercut is the variant when gamblers’ deadwood count is identical to the Knocker’s or lower.

The winner of Oklahoma Gin game is a gambler who amass the highest amount of points. Gin is the move which grant the highest amount of points to the winner. Gamblers who Gin receive 25 points, while their defeated adversaries get double the quantity of their deadwood count as penalty points.

Gamblers who Undercut give the winners 20 points, while their defeated adversaries get the difference in the counts of the winner’s deadwood and their own - as penalty points.

Knock is the last winning move. It gives 10 points to the Knocker, while his defeated adversaries are all “rewarded” with their deadwood count minus the Knocker’s deadwood count as penalty points.

In this game Ace is equal to 1 point,  all the face cards are equal to 10 points and all other cards are equal their face value.

Oklahoma Gin is a very interesting game. Both a beginner and a skilled player will like it. Moreover, this variant of Gin Rummy is easy to learn.
