Kalooki Strategy Basics
Rummy is a popular game, so no wonder it has many variations. Kalooki is one of them. Played mostly in UK, this game has one main difference - two Jokers that act as wild cards.
If you just learn playing Kalooki, there are some things you need to know. Following these simple rules can help you to succeed in mastering this game.
- Kalooki is played with a deck of 106 cards. For you this also means that each card can be got 2 times. This concerns Jokers as well.
- Try to draw right cards. This ability often means a synonym of win in Kalooki. Try to get right cards from stock, while discarding piles is not desired. The cards you discard should not be utilizable and your opponent shouldn’t be able to benefit from them.
- Watch your opponents and their moves. Discard and pick can tell you a lot about the hand of your opponent.
- In Kalooki a player should meld total count of 51 or more points when initial time goes down, so initial target of any beginner is 51.
- Building is natural for Kalooki. During your turn you can add to already existing melds matching cards. Melds can be either yours, or your opponents’. When you discard cards, try to do this in a way that will not create opportunities for your opponents, so they won’t be able to complete duo into melds.
- If you meld a joker, make use of it. Make sure your opponents won’t replace it with another significant card.
- "Go Kalooki" is, certainly, the main aim of the game. Watch your opponents and check what they draw and discard. Normally a player won’t be able to Go Kalooki if his/her opponents have already laid down their melds.
